• In Philippians 1:27-30, the Apostle Paul explains the source of a scatterproof bond.  He longs for the church in Philippi to be “standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, and not frightened in anything by your opponents. ”  This kind of unshakable teamwork includes both an internal unity of purpose and an external solidarity of stance.  Where does this come from?  “Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ…”  The source of this scatterproof bond is the gospel of Christ!  This union is deeper than any cultural or denominational characteristic.  It is even deeper than the “one anothers” that flow from this bond.  Paul describes this union with the little word “with:”

“united with him in a death like his” (Romans 6:5)
“we have died with Christ” (Romans 6:8)
“buried therefore with him” (Romans 6:4)
“made alive together with him” (Colossians 2:13)
“your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3)
“we suffer with him” (Romans 8:17)
with him graciously give us all things” (Romans 8:32)
“we may also be glorified with him” (Romans 8:17)
“you also will appear with him in glory” (Colossians 3:4)

If our Christian unity is grounded in our preferences and experiences, it will not last under heavy opposition.  If we are united together in Christ, then no amount of antagonism can shake that bond!
