We have hit a very famous section of Scripture and I am praying that we will be able to digest what Peter put forward yesterday. Here are some suggestions and questions for this week. Please keep praying together that God will work in our church in the area of being disciples makers both givers of the Gospel and trainers in the Gospel.

  • Read through Philippians 1:1-26 to clarify how this section connects to Paul’s earlier thoughts.
  • In 1:3 we see Paul praying for the church. Now in 1:19 notice Paul’s expectation and dependence upon the prayer of the Philippians. In what ways can we build a culture of prayer dependence among our shepherding group? (the answer is not just to “pray more.”) How can we connect our Gospel partnership in prayer? Think specifically and get many answers.
  • What are your “substitute hopes?”
  • Have people in the group respond to say why Jesus is a “better hope.”
  • How are “face to face” relationships different than “shoulder to shoulder?” (Remember Peter mentioned that shoulder to shoulder are participating in something bigger.)
  • We are participating in something bigger like Paul and the church…we are also on a Mission. What is the mission?
  • With the mission in mind, how would you describe the key relationships in your life? Face to face or shoulder to shoulder?
